Water is a critical resource for the existence of life. Water resources are currently under immense threat due to a number of external factors such as urbanization, population growth, unsustainable use and climate change among others. Management of water resources is therefore critical to ensure future water security of a nation and also to conserve the ecosystem. Approximately a quarter of the carbon dioxide (CO2) that we emit into the atmosphere is absorbed by the ocean. This oceanic uptake of CO2 leads to a change in marine carbonate chemistry resulting in a decrease of seawater pH and carbonate ion concentration, a process commonly called “Ocean Acidification”. Salinity data are key for assessing the marine carbonate system, Cited by:

The NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries aims to provide teachers with resources and training to support ocean literacy in America's classrooms. You will find curriculum, lesson plans and activities that will excite your students about science and .   The hearing will explore the effects of climate change and ocean acidification on living marine resources. Subcommittee Members will hear testimony on the effects that rising concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are having on living marine resources through higher sea temperatures, increased ocean acidity, and other mechanisms.

Trends, current understanding, and future research priorities for artisanal coral reef fisheries research. Fish and Fisheries. Article first published online: 10 APR DOI: /jx. Human additions of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere are creating a cascade of chemical consequences that will eventually extend to the bottom of all the world’s oceans. Among the best-documented seawater effects are a worldwide increase in open-ocean acidity and large-scale declines in calcium carbonate saturation states. The susceptibility of some young, fast-growing Cited by:

A wealth of historical coastal water pH data has been collected using potentiometric glass electrodes, but the accuracy and stability of these sensors is poorly understood. Here we compared pH measurements from five potentiometric sensors incorporated into profiling Sea-Bird instrument packages and compared them to spectrophotometric.

Oceans provide extensive ecosystems for marine animals and plants covering | Author: Debora Iglesias-Rodriguez. Acidification is one of the foremost environmental problems in Europe and North America and has caused damage to forested land, surface waters, historical buildings, monuments and technical structures.

In Europe, 50,–, lakes have been affected by by: 6. A dynamic soil acidification model (SMART) is used to assess the impact of the so-called 50%-gap-closure scenario on the state of forest soils in Europe. This scenario aims to reduce the excess deposition of sulfur over the critical loads by at least 50% everywhere in Europe by the year at minimal emission reduction costs and is currently Cited by:   Closing date: 3 December Position open for US citizens.
